Pickett Hill continues....

I have built most of the doors and windows now - an absolute joy to put together! They have been painted in an ivory colour. I have used Golden Fluid acrylics, as the recommended paints are not available in the UK. I love this particular make of paint and have used it on most of my other projects whether fabric or paper. The Bay window has come together beautifully. The porch is also started but is waiting for another coat of paint - this I am doing white. Once these have dried I shall give them all a coat of varnish and then put the plexi-glass windows in.

My son Elliot (5 and 51 weeks old!) has been inspired by watching me building this project and wanted to build his own model, so this morning we sat down and built this Tudor house kit from cardboard. What fun!

The beginnings of Pickett Hill House

I have started building Pickett Hill House. I am loving this project. Everything seems so well made that it is just fitting together perfectly. I am not writing much today as I am eager to get back to my glueing! But here are some pics of what I've done so far. I have painted the floors and ceilings. I have done the 1st stage for all the windows and doors. The Bay window is the next thing on the list!

Latest Kaffe Fasset Quilt

My latest Kaffe Fasset Quilt is the Little Boxes design from his book 'Kaleidoscope of Quilts'. It has taken me two days to cut out my patches - all 278 of them! But I have finally done them and here is a selection of the fabrics I am using. I always stick to the fabrics that he uses in his books because he has such a wonderful eye for quilts and its the fabric choices that make them. So yet another project to keep up to date with on my blog! I do like long term projects that grow slowly over time.

My Pickett Hill House arrived yesterday - and even in bits it is an exquisite piece of art. I can see that it has been very carefully designed. The instructions are extremely detailed and fairly easy to follow so wish me luck as I plunge into this new craft!

Pickett Hill House

I have very recently discovered the world of Robin Betterley. I stumbled upon their website http://www.robinbetterley.com/ through a link somewhere else. There I found myself staring at Frostys Snowman Shop in total awe! Having never made any sort of model before, let alone a 1/4 scale miniature, I emailed them full of questions. I explained that I sew, paint and collage (among many other creative pastimes) and did they think this was something I could acheive. Shawn emailed me back almost immediately explaining that it sounded like I would be ok. So I decided that I needed to take the plunge into this new world of building miniatures. On this thought I searched on the net for this type of thing, only to discover that there was nothing that drew me to it in the same way. I then found the website http://www.insomesmallway.com/ where I found a UK supplier of the Betterleys miniatures. This is where I first laid eyes on Pickett Hill House ! It was beyond any doubt that I absolutely had to build it. I spoke to Judith on the phone (who then spoke to Shawn) and she sorted everything out in order to make my new dream come true! As I type, Picket Hill House is sitting somewhere in the postal system with my name on it. As and when it arrives I shall start the process of putting it all together and will post my progress.
